All, Does anyone know if and when Larry Bell is going to give details of the Quad C tounament? It's one week away! Just curious. I still don't see a form or where it's going to be, or what time. Thx, Jim Wright

Jim, I have spoken to Larry about Quad C. He told me that he has informed John Simons, more than once, about Quad C and was told that the information would be updated. Apparently, that has not happened. The Quad C tournament will be held at the UK Student Center on SUNDAY, Feb 26, 2012. First round will be at 1pm. Four rounds for all sections. Larry's email is l.bell3@insightbb.com. Contact him for the flyer. Sandy

I have received an e-mail in my business e-mail yesterday while at Quad B. I checked my KCA e-mail and it was not there. So I am posting the actual flier in a couple of minutes.

Thanks for the response. Two things I HAVE to say: I am disappointed that KCA and/or Mr. Bell waited so long to post the details of the Quad C tourney. I don't understand why. I am disappointed that Quad C is on a Sunday!! Most people attend Church Services on Sunday morning and having the tournament on Sunday will hurt attendance. I can attend early service with my family but some can't. Is this the only Sunday Quad Tourney? poor planning... Thanks again for those who responded. Jim Wright

Hi Jim, 5 - I believe Larry had trouble getting a site on a Saturday so he was forced to choose to either do it on a Sunday or have no site. I am certain he took into consideration Church and such -- he's an experienced organizer.

Hello Folks, I am going to rant a bit so if you aren’t up for it I suggest you quit reading now. I sent an email with the flyer to both Ryan and the email address suggested by the KCA website on January 26th. I have spoken with John Simon twice on getting this flyer posted. Why I am being thrown under the proverbial bus is beyond me. It is certainly not appreciated. I also re-sent the flyer last week to Ryan stating that folks were getting frantic with the lack of information. The tournament was reluctantly scheduled for a Sunday. Sites were difficult to attain. Schools in Fayette County are very expensive with lots of hoops to jump through. Please note round 1 is scheduled for 1 pm in an attempt to give people time to get to church. All sections are 4 rounds. Although it won’t matter to most there are lots of activities scheduled on a Sunday. Mr. Wright you are more than welcome to organize and run a tournament. I am sure you would do an excellent job. For the record the only people I have seen step up to make sure Scholastic Chess Tournaments are happening in Central Kentucky are Sandy Waters and Frank Walls. And kudos to them for their efforts. Going forward we now have access to a wonderful site at the University of Kentucky AND are being allowed to schedule a year in advance. This shouldn’t happen in the future, although I am aware that doesn’t change want has happened this year. In my conversation with John Simon (acting Scholastic Coordinator) on Friday night he stated he would be at Quad C. He further said all that was needed at that time was a commitment from qualifying coaches that their respective schools would attend State Team. And there would be no late fees. John did state the participant names would be need within a couple of days. His words…not mine. I suggest you talk with your parents and get commitments before the tournament. If you are reading this rant then you have access to the Blue Book. I strongly urge you to read it as the rules are subject to change on a year-to-year basis. Thanks, larry

I will just take the blame for it all so this can all stop. My intention was not to cause a ruckus. I am sorry Larry if you feel any blame was being thrown your way. Like John, I think you have been having difficulty getting the tournament together. Sites keep falling through and such and these events are tough. I apologize to anyone who has felt my job has been poorly done. Clearly stepping down will be a good thing for me to do since I am clearly not competant at getting sites up in a timely enough manner that makes everyone happy.

John is not the acting Scholastic Coordinator. He was elected the scholastic Coordinator at the state team held in March 2011.

OMG..... Ryan, you have done a fine job, I have no complaints at all when it comes to your passion and commitment to Kentucky chess.. I commned your dedication to chess in Kentucky. My complaint is/was two fold. I sent the flyer on 1/26 to you and the email address given my KCA for getting a tournament posted. You misrepresented when you got it. I even sent you an email (same email address you found it in yesterday) to say I let you know I had also sent it to the other email address. Your mis-representation implied I was remiss in submitting the information. And you did that publicly. THAT is the only complaint I have with your actions. I personally think you have done a fantastic job for Kentucky chess. My other complaint has nothing to do with you and htought I was pretty clear about who that was directed at. lastly, my apologies to John....for thinking you had inherited the Kentcuky Scholastic Coordinator postion from Allen when he took on USCF responsibilities. My mistake. I am sorry for that. larry

All, Thanks for the communication. Open communication is always the best policy. We all now know what happened. Ryan - Has a replacement been found for you? Do you have anyone in mind? or suggestions on who should take your (heavy) responsibility? Larry - Sounds like you have secured the future of Quad C. good job! On your comment about me running a tournament. I would love to, in the future. I currently, like all of us, have too much on my plate. 5 kids, several military deployments and staring at more in the near future, and working crazy hours as a Narcotics Detective provides me very little time to organize. I very much enjoy teaching my kids Chess and I take them to as many tournaments as possible. That's about all I can do at the present. But I am grafeful that there are men like you, Ryan, Allen, and many others that step up and provide tournaments. Keep pushing forward and keep the lines of communications open. God Speed, Jim Wright
