January 7 - 14 - 21 - 28 are the dates that the cummulative score of the players in the open section will be calculated in order to determine our club champion.  The club champion will be our representative to the King of King's event for this year.

Often I will use Accelerated pairing in the open so that the strongest player meet during this 4 week period.

Time Controls will remain G/30.d5.

5 minute penalty if a player is not notating.

No byes available except in the first round.  1/2 point for a late arriving player.

Please read this closely and suggest other pre-tournament notes that need to be posted.

Thanks,

Steve

Steve, the E-town Chess Club completely revamped our Club Championship to conform with KCA's requirements to produce a King of Kings participant. We are currently entering the "match play" requirement where the winner must win with at least a 2 point score after an even number of games. Not "notating" is a violation of USCF rules; further, how do you intend to meet the requirement to submit game scores to KCA?

I suggest you hold off and clarify the rules with Daniel. The King of Kings was held in April last year, there is plenty of time.

The Monday at Meijer's Champions have qualified to play a match to determine our representation at the King of Kings tournament.  Congratulations to John Marscik and William Fuller.  These two fine gentlemen and players are co-champions of the Meijer's club.  Over the last 4 weeks they both accumulated 8.5 points out of 12.  Monday February 4th is the plan for a 3 game match to determine our King of King's player.

Final Standings

Wiiliam Fuller   8.5

John Marscik    8.5

Melvin Person  7.5

Chris Bush       6

Mike Thomas   5

Randas Burns  3.5

Thanks to the KCA for developing this concept.  Players seem to really like it.  Our club has benefitted from interest in this event in the month of January with some well attended meets.

The champ should be entitled to his own entrance music, which naturally would be "King of Kings":

Arriving with a sledgehammer and spitting water up into the air would be fun to see. I think we've finally touched on a way to popularize chess.
