The Kings tournament will be April 6th in Lexington, and will be held concurently with the 1st Saturday of the month tournament.  This should be added to the calendar soon.

I played Daniel Brennan today in the final round for the Louisville Chess Club Championship. We had some very tough games but I did manage to win - I will be to rep for LCC.

April 6 is during the supernationals.  This eliminates John Marcsik from one or the other.

That is true - what is his insight on it?

Has anyone contacted William Fuller to see if he will attend in Marcsik's absense?

Did Marcsik say he wasn't going to attend one or the other? I thought Steve was just speculating and I was just wondering what Marcsik thought.

Thanks for the concern. things are getting better and going as well as can be hoped after the complications of Monday. if everythings goes well, they'll wake steven up tomorrow afternoon (he's been under anesthesia since 8am monday). the most optimistic is I start a 1000 mile drive thursday morning and it is unclear how long steven can sit in the car.

I really wanted to play but lexington saturday just isn't possible.

thanks again for the expressions of concern.

Family is way more important than chess. I hope everything goes well on the trip home.

Have we heard if DeWayne Baker is coming from the Winchester Club? I believe Frank Walls was 2nd there.

Was there a final word on Marcsik?

When I asked John M. on Monday night he said he couldn't play because of work issues. This is, of course, not official; however, Randas was present to hear.

Ok so Marcsik doesn't feel he has to choose between two events but his work schedule seems to get in the way. Lame, he'd add a great deal to either event (Nationals or the Kings).

According to an e-mail I just received this post was taken as "discouraging" and "an attack" against Mr Marcsik and I was told that I was overlooking the fact that Marcsik "might need his job."

I am sorry if I came off this way. I simply meant to convey that I wanted Marcsik to participate. He and I get along and we play nearly monthly at Mike Johnson's house. In our last 6 games he should have won 3 - time pressure got the better of him.

I made a promise to Steve Dillard that I wouldn't be political on the message board. Apparently, whenever I write people seem to read my posts with a negative mind set. I'll make good on a new promise: to delete my account in a week or so. Clearly, my opinions aren't warranted or necessary.

I'll still see everyone at chess events,

I think your comment was fine. I agree with you, it is lame (though understandable) that he will not be able to attend either event. He is a credit to chess and will be missed. Ryan, you should not allow the comments of one misguided person that reads a comment the wrong way to dictate your life and choices.

That is true Miami. I actually messaged Marcsik on facebook today and he responded. He doesn't seem to know what's going on on here as he doesn't check KCA I think. He wasn't offended and wrote "ha!"

I'll try to clarify with him via facebook if he is going instead of making the assumption, as I did, that he is working (albeit, I trust Mike Thomas' word) and making declarations that he has to pick between 2 events. I have no doubt Marcsik, if he is unable to attend, will make it into the closed at the KY Open.

Its that time again for the King of Kings tournament. It was decided at the KCA board meeting last Sunday that the King of Kings tournament would be held alongside the 1st Saturday tournament in Lexington on June 7th (my birthday as well).

Every club in Kentucky needs to designate a representative to play in this event. At most clubs it is determined by a tournament or match play. I know at the Meijers event Steve Dillard picks a month and chooses the player with the most number of points at the end of that month. We had a very strong eveny last year and had a new player emerge from one our clubs and play some of Lousiville and Lexington's strongest competition. These our clubs that I know of so far:

1. Highland Coffee Shop

2. Meijers tournament

3. Pizza Place chess club

4. Etown chess club

5. Lexington chess club

If there is a club I'm missing I do apologize. All the club representatives will play at the king of king tournament and the winner will get free entry into the Ky Open and a spot in the Ky Adult Closed championship. Good luck to everyone!!

Good to see the King of King's event is back.  Since it has been announced later than usual, the meijer's event will use the total score in the open section of our March events.  So March 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31 will be the Mondays counted for the King of Kings event.  We should be able to announce the club champion April 1.

Randas, I know that the King of Kings takes some work to organize.  Thanks for taking it on again.

Steve
